Weekend update
Chickens The biggest news is with the chickens – they are finally outside in their pen!!! [http://www.flickr.com/photos/36013428@N08/3643098361/] It has been a real killer trying to get the pen finished. Had to cut the roofing
My harbinger of doom
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/36013428@N08/3601494297/] It seems only a matter of time before one chicken escapes from the pen in the basement. Luckily there is nowhere to go, nor anything to hurt her, but it seems inevitable.
Chicks after ten days
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/36013428@N08/3594557931/] They are growing like crazy! And definitely eating loads. I’ve continued to give them fresh-cut grass/flowers and gravel; they always love that and gobble it up immediately. No worms yet,
Time for some real food, too
Chickens need (mostly) grain/seeds to live, but up to 20% of their nutrients can (and should) come from live food. It’s still too cold to let them venture outside, so I brought in some cut grass and flowers
48 hours, 36 chicks
Things I have learned in the first two days: * You will immediately learn the difference between happy chirping/tweeting and annoyed/unhappy/etc. * They (seem to) have absolutely no regard for each other! They will happily walk over another chick
You do have to leave the red light on
The chicks are here! [http://www.flickr.com/photos/36013428@N08/3566021701/] They fit all of them in half the box. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/36013428@N08/3566025297/] [http://www.flickr.com/photos/36013428@N08/3566036175/] First one in
It’s oh so quiet
It’s, oh so still. (For now) :) In about ninety minutes, thirty-six little peeping chickens will arrive and I am quite sure the quietness will go away. Here’s how things look this morning :) [http://www.flickr.com/photos/36013428@
